Additionally, several people in my office have come down with the virus and many of my clients or their families have lost loved ones to it. The question is as follows: am I going to get the “COVID-19 Vaccine” when it is available to me? This is the talk amongst everyone these days. Other questions include who will get access to the vaccine first? Is it safe? What are the side effects? Which vaccine should I take if I am willing to move forward? You might think this is an easy decision for me but think again! We are in unprecedented times with this horrible illness. In fact, I asked my 88-year-old father the other day if he has ever been through anything like this during his lifetime. His answer was “never”!! I also asked him if he will be first in line to get the vaccine based on his age and health history. Again, his answer surprised me as well….”no”! It made me think about which way I would go on this topic since my father is a bright man and a retired doctor. My decision came down to a typical attorney analysis. I decided to look at the “pros” and “cons” of taking the vaccine. The “cons” of the vaccine for me were the side effects and the unknown. The side effects appear to be severe allergic reactions if you are prone to it, pain, redness or swelling near the injection site, fatigue, headache, chills, muscle pain and joint pain. The “unknown” is that we are in new territory and no one is sure what the long-term effects might be on your body. The “pros” of the vaccine are obvious…being immune to getting the virus and also avoiding giving it to others. When it came down to making my decision, it was easy. As long as Dr. Anthony Fauci says it is safe, then I am moving forward with the vaccine. My rationale is simple, I want to protect my wife and kids. In other words, I do not want to be the cause of why they got this virus if it were to happen. In fact, my father informed my wife the other day that I am nonrefundable, how funny is that? I am 53 years old and was a high school and college athlete. I was a state high school champion tennis and soccer player as well as a Division I college tennis player. Unfortunately, playing those years does catch up to you…and I am no exception to that rule. Over the years I have had shoulder surgery, three knee surgeries and now need a hip replacement! In fact, during this Pandemic, I have had three separate “procedures”, which is why my wife and kids would like to get a refund from my father! I had knee surgery, a huge lipoma (fatty cyst) removed and kidney stone surgery. Yet, the one thing that I can tell you is that I wake up every day with constant pain in both of my knees. Even after the three surgeries. Because of the chronic pain, my family told me to start using CBD oil and supplements. So, the question is does it work? First, I tried using the CBD oil on my large incision from the lipoma removal to help with the healing process. I can tell you that it took a few weeks of rubbing it in every night, but it worked. For some reason, it made the soreness and tenderness go away. Second, I have had a stiff neck from a muscle related issue for about six months, so I decided to use the oil on that as well. It worked!! Finally, I tried rubbing the CBD oil on both of my knees every night to see how that would react. Unfortunately, that did NOT work. I told my kids that my knees were still killing me every day and the CBD oil was not working. They went to one of those “stores” that specialize in this issue and came back with a different product. This product required me to put a little liquid into a glass of water every night and drink it. The result? After three days, both my knees felt great! I could not believe that this stuff worked for me. I do not know if anyone of you have these types of “pains”, but I am now a firm believer in giving CBD a try.Have You Been Injured Due To The Negligence Of Others?

I was sitting in traffic at a red light when my life changed forever. Out of nowhere a teenager proceeded to cause a three-car accident in which I was one of the three cars! It was not a horrible accident. It was a typical one in the South Florida area with rear bumper damage to my car. I was the front car in the three-car scenario. I knew that as soon as the accident happened something was wrong with me. I had the usual injuries of sore neck, sore upper back, sore mid back and sore lower back. Yet, my right shoulder did not feel right, and I had trouble lifting it up at the scene. I was taken by ambulance to the hospital (yes, my PIP Insurance of $10,000 was completely used up at the hospital that morning) and, of course, they said everything was fine as there were no broken bones. I took it upon myself to get to an orthopedic specialist who ordered an MRI of the right shoulder. The results were a torn rotator cuff which required surgery!!! So, I followed the doctor’s advice and had the right shoulder operated. Yes, it was a horrible recovery!! In fact, it was the worst recovery that I have ever had in a surgery because the rehabilitation was exhausting. Yes, I did Physical Therapy several times a week for months. Yes, I did miss work and it was a huge inconvenience for myself as well as my entire family! Yes, it took over a year for my case to even be ready to write a demand letter and begin the settlement process! The morale of the story is that I followed the doctor’s advice AND I was consistent in my treatments. The results were (1) I got better (which is the main thing to always remember) and (2) I got a very fair recovery for my injuries. Why did I get a fair recovery? Because I DID NOT have a huge gap in treatment!!! So please remember the importance of following the doctor’s advice and the value of consistency in treatment in your next incident. We live in South Florida and you will most likely get involved in another incident……have you seen how people drive down here!!!Have You Been Injured In A Florida Car Accident?

Do we send both back to school or have them continue to live at home? Unfortunately, there appears to be no good answer either way! As a refresher, I have two children in college. Ally is going into her senior year at The University of Miami School of Nursing. Jason is going into his sophomore year at George Washington University in Washington D.C. Both of my kids have been living at home, doing on-line school, since March of this year. As of today, The University of Miami has informed Ally that all her classes will be on-line in the fall. Yet, because she is a senior in the Nursing School, her “clinical” of the program will be in person at the hospitals. I am sure the School of Nursing determined that they need to get these students the practical real-life experience of being a nurse and working with actual patients. Thus, for my daughter it was a much easier decision. She needs to be at school for the “clinical” portion of her senior year. Jason has become a much harder decision as a parent. There is no need for him to go back to school physically as George Washington University has stated all fall classes are “on-line”. But do we continue to have him at home going to college “on-line”? Or do we send him to college to live in Washington D.C. and do the same thing? The concerns for both of my kids are obvious: are we exposing them to a higher chance that they might get the Covid-19 infection? After all, they are going to be around other “kids” their age. Can we trust our kids to be smart in that type of environment? Our answer to these questions came to light when we asked both what they wanted to do. Both stated that they feel like they are in a prison (a nice one) living at home with us. I get it! Who wants to live with your parents while you are in your college years? Not me! My wife and I both decided that we need to let them grow up and make their own decisions. Hopefully, they will be smart enough to protect themselves with this virus. As I stated, there is no good answer either way!Have You Been Injured Due To The Negligence Of Others?

Have you ever heard of a "GAP" year? Please do not confuse the two, although both are important in my eyes. Let's first discuss what "GAP" insurance is and how it is used. The definition is as follows: it is a type of auto insurance that car owners can buy to protect themselves against losses that can arise when the amount of compensation received from a total loss does not fully cover the amount the insured owes on the vehicle's financing or lease agreement. The key to remember with this type of insurance coverage is that it only kicks in if you have (a) a total loss, (b) you own the car, and (c) you owe more than it is actually worth in today's marketplace. This is something that you should consider if you fall within the three items described above. So, what is a "GAP" year then? Well, the definition is a period, typically an academic year, taken by a student as a break between secondary school and higher education. One might be asking why in the world would I bring this topic up? The reason I am bringing it up is because my wife and I are in the middle of having one of our children (Ally, a junior at the University of Miami Nursing School) go through this process. At first my initial reaction was why in the world would I allow my child to delay school a year? After getting through fifty percent of the "GAP" year, I can say everyone should consider having their child hit the pause button for a year. Some of the benefits of the "GAP" year include (1) discovering a hidden passion, (2) developing new life skills, (3) improving yourself, or (4) learning to refocus on what is important. Over the past six months, my wife and I have seen Ally grow up in front of our eyes. She became yoga instructor certified, has been hired at three different locations for her yoga teaching, has learned to cook, is beginning to understand finances better and is becoming more focused on what life is about. This would not of happened without the "GAP" year! As a parent, it is something I would consider if you have children.....it might be one of the best educations your child could receive.Have You Been Injured In A Florida Car Accident?

Yesterday the seniors heard if they were accepted or rejected from this college institution. How do I know this......because I have a high school senior (Jason) who is in the middle of the college admissions process. It was such a big day for kids across Florida yesterday that my son's high school (Cypress Bay) actually created a "senior skip day" which happens to coincide with the day that the University of Florida's decisions come out. Yes, it is such a big deal that the entire senior class cannot focus and they decide to take the day off! Did you know: (1) the University of Florida had over 34,000 applications and the average SAT score was 1,300; (2) the University of Miami had over 31,000 applications and the average SAT score was 1,400; and (3) Florida State University had over 41,000 applications and the average SAT score was 1,250. Schools across the country look at many factors for their admissions process. Such items include ACT scores, SAT scores, class rank, "core" GPAs, "weighted" GPAs, essay topics and extracurricular activities. But when it comes down to it, to me the schools only care about the ACT or SAT score and sometimes your GPA. I have seen many of Jason's friends get high ACT or SAT scores (with average GPAs) and get into schools while other kids with a lower ACT or SAT score get denied, even though they are very well rounded in all other areas. To me the colleges are putting too much emphasis on the ACT or SAT score and not getting the big picture of who the child is! The college admissions "process" has got to change. What is the answer? I do not know, but something has got to give. To me there has to be a better method to this college admissions madness then a test score! Whoever can figure out what that change is will make the college admissions process more equitable for everyone! In case anyone was wondering, Jason got into UF and UM (he did not apply to FSU). By the way, he is most likely not going to either one of those schools, go figure!Have You Been Injured Due To The Negligence Of Others?
