Can I Leave Money In My Will For My Pet Animal

January 28, 2022

Hey everybody, Attorney Andy. Here’s a question for you. If I have a pet and I’m a pet lover, by the way if I have a pet and I pass away can I leave money to my pet? And the answer is no, and you want to know why? Because a pet is considered property and you can’t leave money to property. So what do you do? Well there’s lots of ways to handle it, but one of the simplest ways to handle it is you can create some sort of a pet trust inside your will or inside the trust document where you leave money for the benefit of your pet and then you have someone supervise the money for you.

I hope that makes sense. These are really important topics and you shouldn’t do any of this without the need and the assistance of an attorney. Contact our office so we can help you at 954-755-7803 and as always check out askandylegal.com for lots of free vital information on all different topics.

Thanks!
